ADJECTIVE CLAUSE
Dalam bahasa inggris ini kita akan membahas tentang adjective clause, sebelum kita bisa membahas adjective clause kita harus mengetahui sebenernya apa sih clause atau clauses tersebut. Dalam bahasa inggris clauses adalah serangkaian kata yang mengandung subject(pokok kalimat) dan predicate(sebutan kalimat).
Berdasarkan fungsinya, clause diklasifikasikan menjadi 3 macam, yaitu :
Karena dalam pembahasan kali ini yang di bahas tentang adjective clause, maka kita akan membahas sekilas tentang noun clause, dan adverb clause
Noun clause
Merupakan klausa yang memiliki fungsi seperti kata benda, diantaranya sebagai subjek atau pelengkap. Klausa ini biasanya diawali oleh : if, wheter, atau question words.
2. Adverb clause
Adalah klausa yang memiliki fungsi seperti kata keterangan (adverb), yaitu untuk menerangkan kata kerja, kata sifat, complement, dan keterangan lain.
3. Adjective clause
Merupakan klausa yang memiliki fungsi sama seperti kata sifat(adjective), yaitu untuk menerangkan kata benda. Klausa ini biasanya diawali relative pronoun atau kata ganti penghubung yang menunjuk kepada orang atau benda yang dicarakan dalam kalimat.
Relative pronoun tersebut antara lain : who, whom, wich, where, why, how and that.
Contoh: - the man is fareel, the man is reading beside the door
the man who is standing beside the door is fareel
(laki laki yang sedang berdiri di samping pintu itu adalah fareel)
-the boy is my friend . the boy waved to me just now
The boy who is my friend, waved tome just now
(laki laki yang melambaikan tangan itu sekarang adalah teman saya)
Pola pemakaian adjective clause dalam suatu kalimat yang berdasarkan keadaan kata bendanya ada 2 macam, yaitu:
1. Defening clause
Adalah bagian dari kalimat (anak kalimat) yang memberikan keterangan agar kalimat menjadi jelas, dan penulisannya tidak menggunakan koma.
Contoh :
-the man gave a book, the man drove a car
The man who gave a book drove a car
(lelaki yang memberikan buku juga mengendarai mobil)
2. Non defening clause
Adalah bagian dari kalimat yang memberikan keterangan agar kalimat menjadi jelas, dan penulisanya disertai dengan tanda koma atau dengan tandakurung.
Contoh:
-my brother still plays football. He is over thirty years
My brother who is over thirty years still plays football
(adikku tetap bermain bola meskipun umurnya lebih dari 30th)
